Must. Stop. Staring. At. DOLLS.
I'm FINALLY on HOLIDAYS!Even though I can see the assignments looming on the horizon, I'm gonna try to squeeze in as much 'fun' and 'me' time as possible. Oh and of course plenty of Open Houses. Muahaha. The heat is reminiscent of Summer. Toys R Us is reminiscent of my childhood. I was perusing the pink aisles loaded with Barbies, Bratz and the like. Oh God. The Barbies look hideous! I think they had a makeover after Bratz dethroned them off the Favourite Doll List. They have distorted and unproportional features. And they look like SKANKS. I don't know what message they're trying to send young girls nowdays. Those MyScene dolls are always baring their midriffs and they even have a 'disco club' collection. You advocate CLUBBING to 10 year olds???? Another thing I saw was this collection called 'Growing Up Glam'. You twist the dial on their backs and they magically grow! There was this catchphrase at the back saying something like 'from a cute tween to a teen with curves!' WTF? So ALL girls are supposed to look like THAT when they grow up????In the name of research (Oh shut up), I went to both the barbie and myscene websites. The barbie ones are still alright but the myscene ones...Oh God. I hope kids don't really act like that in real life. The only tolerable one is Chelsea. Coz she likes retro clothes. Actually, I don't think she knows that people call it vintage. Wait. She's not even real. Hmm.And then, I forgot all the hype when I started staring at these pretty things. I still find dolls lovely though. They were an integral part of my childhood. So to see them depreciating in value kind of frazzles me. Oh well. I'm content with just browsing their pictures on flickr. :) Labels: Geekery, Rambling, Random
