Half a century's worth of independence
I've been reading some articles about all the preparation done for the upcoming Merdeka celebrations in Malaysia. It seems that everyone back home is going all out in celebrating 50 years of independence with a huge bang.
From the annual Merdeka Parade to giant slideshows on the sides of the Menara Maybank. From the usual contests to handmade pens which costs RM 1957 (yes, to commemorate the date). Everyone is gearing up for a half century's worth of "nationhood, sacrifices, tolerance and co-operation" (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, 2007).
I am proud then to say that we Sydneysiders have done a great job in taking part in this extravagant anniversary. We have slaved away to ensure that Malaysia is well represented and glorified over here in Australia.
Our love of our home country has been projected tremendously in the Malaysia Festival 2007. The spirit of the students honouring their motherland resonated through Darling Harbour. Colourful performances, magnificent food, plenty of smiles and lots of laughter. Everything symbolising what our forefathers have worked hard for.
Thanks to everyone in Sydney who has made Mfest a success. Im pretty sure you guys did Malaysia proud. ;)
ps: Up next, Malam Gema Merdeka. Another tribute to the wonderful homeland named Malaysia.
